Transforming SUSS
Hosting a climate education & design-thinking workshop for SUSS's sustainability committee.
Last month, the team hosted a climate change & design-thinking workshop on sustainability for SUSS (Singapore University of Social Sciences)
We are grateful to Winston Ong (Vice President, Corporate), Eng Joo Tan (Senior Lecturer) & Cai Ling Seo (Sustainability Manager) for bringing us onboard!

That’s us with SUSS Sustainability Committee!
Brief story of how it all started:
𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 - 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰:
SUSS has been on their Sustainability Journey for the past 1.5-2 years. Our journey with them begun with hosting a Climate Fresk workshop for their Chinese exchange students.
June 2023:
SUSS published their Sustainability Policy to represent their ESG commitment. The policy covers procedures and practices to guide the University in meeting their sustainability goals.
The SUSS Sustainability Committee was formed to drive their overall sustainability strategy and foster a culture of environmental responsibility, social impact and effective governance across University operations.
𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰:
We hosted another Climate Fresk workshop for SUSS’s newly formed Sustainability Committee. The workshop inspired the Committee with fresh perspectives and ideas, which led to their development of a Sustainability Roadmap.
Which brings us to 2025:
𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱:
The Committee would like to host an onsite stakeholder engagement workshop, to kick off an inter-department effort in rolling out the school’s sustainability initiatives.

SUSS’s stakeholder engagement workshop:
The Transmutation Principle team curated the session with the SUSS working team from start to finish.
Mun Wei Chan (Founder & Principle Consultant of SustainableSG) opened the session with his insightful briefing on important overarching themes, concepts and key issues concerning ESG, specifically on climate change trends and the university’s responsibility in delivering the 4th SDG (sustainability development goal) which is Quality Education.
He also shared inspiring sustainability case studies from other university campuses, such as University of Toronto (the most sustainable university in the world) and University of Wisconsin-Madison which has their own sustainability dashboard that tracks their on-campus impact, awareness & emissions.

both founders of their own sustainability consultancy.
As the primary outcome for the workshop is to collect stakeholders’ feedback on the Committee’s Sustainability Roadmap and ideate on more project ideas, we had to first ensure participants acquire a fundamental understanding on climate change before they start ideating and brainstorming on solutions.
After the briefing, participants were assigned their breakout groups where they went through a 3 hours immersive Climate Fresk workshop.

Climate Fresk is a card-based learning methodology on the science of how climate change works.
After learning about how human activities contribute to climate change, participants are asked to give their feedback on the Committee’s sustainability priorities and ideate on more solutions to increase the university’s positive impact on the community and the environment.
Through this exercise, the Committee is able to involve their colleagues and stakeholders to co-own and collectively deliver on the university’s sustainability policy and pledges.
Goal of the workshop is to increase the stakeholders’ ownership of the university’s sustainability programme and co-design projects that would deliver on the university's vision of co-creating a sustainable social impact on-campus & with the wider community.
